At the end of the day its a new revenue opportunity or Infrastructure Operators and MVNOs in the form of Dynamic Multi-tenant services at the edge. Currently MVNOs are locked into long term tower space rentals which buys them foot print on the tower, having a dynamic “Telco Asset Market Place” as you call it, is long over due, glad to see some real progress with the demonstration. Maybe something like MVNO “Pay as you Play” Infrastructure as a Service “IaaS”, pitched to the CSPs (Infrastructure Owner/Operators) and the MVNOS as well as the event broadcasters might bring the message home quicker, priced on per event basis?
Such a capability/service coupled with for example, Kubernetes dynamic deployment of edge container/VM based streaming servers, positioned to better optimize traffic flows and service event swarms with better QoS , makes perfect sense. Especially so, given many of the Infrastructure Operators are devolving their centralized Data Centers (Telekom in D, Bell Canada etc..,) to move such services closer to the subscriber, locating more distributed DC compute and storage power to their edge PoP “Points of Presence” and, in many cases, re-purposing their old Switch buildings in order to better compete at lower cost with better value against the Google, MS Azure and Amazon ECS hosted services.
